JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia is participating in the United Nations high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF), which is being held virtually this year in the wake of the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Being held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the forum also includes a three-day ministerial meeting. Saudi Arabia's participation in the forum, which is set to begin on Tuesday (July 6) and will run Until July 15, is in keeping with its commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Bin Fadhil Al-Ibrahim is leading the Saudi delegation to the HLPF 2021. The delegation includes a number of governmental bodies, the private sector, the non-profit sector and think tanks. The delegation will also represent the presidency of the Arab Sustainable Development Forum, in the gathering. The theme of the HLFP 2021 is sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The forum will discuss sustainable development goals on poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, reduced inequalities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships in depth. Ministers and other participants will be able to explore various aspects of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts. They will discuss the kind of policies and international cooperation that can control the pandemic and its impacts and put the world back on track to achieve the SDGs by 2030, within the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development.
