Iran is wreaking havoc in Mideast, says Saudi foreign minister
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 14 - 01 - 2021

MOSCOW — Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan on Thursday said that Iran is wreaking havoc in the Middle East region with its interventions.
He made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov following their meeting in the Russian capital.
Prince Faisal said Tehran's proxy militias were obstructing a solution for the war in Syria. He also accused the Iranian-backed Houthi militia of obstructing peace efforts in that country.
He urged Iran to "enhance the capabilities of the Iranian people instead of financing militias to destabilize the security of neighboring countries."
"The Iranian regime must change its philosophy regarding its role in the region," he said, explaining that "the Iranian citizen should be a priority, and when that happens, things will change in the region."
The Saudi minister stated that "the Kingdom is pushing toward achieving stability in the region," referring to "undermining Iranian security activities" in the region.
He pointed out "Saudi Arabia's success in implementing the Riyadh Agreement in Yemen," referring to "an Iranian role in supplying the Houthis in Yemen with weapons."
Regarding the oil market stability, Prince Farhan said that "cooperation with Russia contributed to stabilizing oil prices" within the "OPEC+" system.
On Libya, he stressed that "Saudi Arabia affirms that the solution in Libya must be done without external interference."
Meanwhile, the Russian foreign minister welcomed the outcomes of the AlUla summit held recently in Saudi Arabia.
He stressed that "Moscow is keen on the stability in the Arab Gulf region."
"We support the Saudi position in rejecting foreign interference in regional issues," Lavrov added.
Lavrov also said that Moscow supports "a comprehensive political process in Libya with the participation of all parties," adding that he "discussed with the Saudi Foreign Minister the crisis in Syria."
He pointed out that his country "is cooperating with Saudi Arabia in combating the coronavirus pandemic, as well as regarding the stability of the oil market."
Both foreign ministers discussed extensively ways to develop and strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields, the most important of which are investment, development and exchange of technical expertise.
