BERLIN — Iran has been blatantly interfering in the internal affairs of several Arab countries including Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, Adel Al-Jubeir, foreign minister, said here Monday. Addressing a joint press conference here with his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Al-Jubeir said the Kingdom was keen on good relations with Iran provided that country changes its policy of interference in the affairs of countries in the region. Al-Jubeir said Iranian support for the President Bashar Al-Assad regime in Syria is a tragedy for the Syrian people. Al-Jubeir said Iran must change its hostile policy if it actually wants good relations with its neighboring countries. On the issue of Iranian nuclear deal with Western powers last month, Al-Jubeir said Tehran's consistent refusal to allow nuclear inspectors to visit some of its military installations proves its intent to go ahead with the manufacture of nuclear weapons. "The Kingdom is closely monitoring Iran's quest for uranium enrichment," he said. Steinmeier said he understands the concern of Riyadh and the GCC countries on the Iranian nuclear deal. He also warned Iran that sanctions will be reimposed if it tries to renege on any of the deal clauses. He announced that he will visit the Kingdom during the next couple of months. Al-Jubeir stressed the Kingdom's keenness on the safety of Yemen and its people. He said the intervention of the Kingdom and the coalition countries was at the request of the legitimate Yemeni President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi. On human rights situation in the Kingdom, Al- Jubeir reiterated that every individual enjoys the basic human rights according to the principles of Islamic Shariah. On Saudi blogger Raef Badawi's sentencing, Al-Jubeir said it is a judicial matter and the Kingdom does not interfere and won't allow anybody to interfere in the case. He added that Saudi Arabia is looking to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Germany in the future. On Tuesday, Jubeir will visit Moscow to discuss the conflict in Syria with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, according to a statement issued by Russia's foreign ministry and confirmed by the Saudi Press Agency. “The ministers will discuss the possibility of Russia-Saudi cooperation in fighting terrorism, which is in the interests of both countries,” the Russian foreign ministry said on Saturday. During their meeting in Moscow, Jubeir and Lavrov will also discuss a resolution to the conflict in Yemen, where a coalition of Arab countries are carrying out a campaign against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels.
