Global coronavirus caseload crosses 63m

More than 63 million (63,126,674) people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,466,049 have died with total recoveries reaching 43,587,601, according to a global tally published on Monday.
Infections have been reported in more than 218 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019. Coronavirus cases have surged over the past few months in several regions of the world and large numbers of new infections are being reported daily.
The US has recorded over 13 million cases and over 250,000 deaths from coronavirus, the highest figures in the world. It tops the list of 20 countries with the highest recorded infections and deaths in the world.
In Moscow, Russia recorded on Monday 368 additional COVID-19 deaths and 26,338 new infections in a span of 24 hours. Overall infections increased to 2,295,654 cases, while the death toll surged to 39,895 fatalities, the anti-coronavirus crisis center said. Additionally the total number of healed cases increased to 1,778,704 after adding 17,247 fresh recoveries, it said.
In Berlin, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 11,169 to 1,053,869, data from the Robert Koch Institute, RKI, for infectious diseases showed on Monday. The reported death toll rose by 125 to 16,248, the tally showed.
In Brussels, total infections of coronavirus cases in Belgium on Monday increased to 574,599 with 2,151 new infections reported by Belgian health authorities. They said 86 more deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours raising the total death toll to 16,547.
In Vienna, the Austrian Health Ministry said Monday that coronavirus infections rose up to 280,743 with the nation recording 2,748 positive cases during the last 24 hours. In addition, more than 217,000 patients were cured, whereas the death toll reached 3,184.
India's novel coronavirus cases rose by 38,772, the country's Health Ministry said on Monday, making it the 23rd straight day that daily cases have stayed below the 50,000 mark. Deaths rose by 443 in the last 24 hours, and now total 137,139.
The country now has 9.43 million cases, the second-highest in the world after the United States, but daily cases have been dipping since hitting a peak in September.
In Tokyo, Japan reported 749 new cases on Monday, raising the nation's total number to 148,317m the Health Ministry and local authorities said. The country's cumulative death toll stood at 2,135.
Tokyo added 311 new infections, dipping below 400 for the first time in six days, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 40,939.
Meanwhile, Japan and China on Monday resumed short-term business travel between the countries without the requirement of a 14-day self-isolation upon arrival. Japan has already taken the same measures with Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam.
In Seoul, South Korea added 438 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the country's total caseload to 34, 201, said Yonhap News Agency. The country reported three additional coronavirus fatalities raising the total to South Korea added 526, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said. — Agencies
