Authorities also reported 22,410 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, including 5,882 in the capital Moscow, bringing the national tally to 1,971,013. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 14,419 to 815,746 and the reported death toll rose by 267 to 12,814, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Tuesday. The United Kingdom reported 21,363 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, taking the country's cumulative total to over 1.39 million, according to Reuters. Government data also showed 213 new deaths from the novel coronavirus, taking the UK death toll since the start of the pandemic to 52,147, the highest in Europe. In Shanghai, Mainland China reported 15 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, up from eight cases a day earlier, the country's national health authority said on Tuesday. The National Health Commission said in a statement all new cases were imported infections originating from overseas. The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not count as confirmed COVID-19 cases, fell to 12 from 14 a day earlier. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in mainland China now stands at 86,361, while the death toll remains unchanged at 4,634. In Tokyo, Japan reported 1,133 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours Tuesday, raising the nation's total number to 120,378 the health Ministry and local authorities said. The country's cumulative death toll rose by 12 to 1,910. Tokyo added 298 new infections, surpassing 200 for the first time in two days, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 35,229. South Korea added 230 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday bringing the country's total caseload to 28,999 according to the Yonhap news agency. The nation did not report any new death, keeping the total at 494, the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said. To slow down the fast spread of COVID-19, health authorities are to raise the social distancing scheme from Level 1 to Level 1.5 under a five-tier scheme in the Seoul metropolitan area from Thursday. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
