Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 08 - 2020

DP World, the Dubai- based provider of worldwide smart end-to-end supply chain logistics, and the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) announced its donation of $100,000 and $50,000 respectively to the Lebanese Red Cross as part of the relief efforts following the explosion in Beirut port, which left 137 people dead and about 5,000 injured, in addition to massive material damage according to official estimates.
The donations to the Lebanese Red Cross have been made to support its life-saving work in the aftermath of the explosion at Beirut Port.
Hundreds of Lebanese Red Cross emergency medical personnel have been working in neighborhoods damaged by the blast, treating the injured and taking them to hospital, and searching for survivors.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World, said: "Our sympathy and thoughts are with the people of Lebanon. The leadership and the people of the UAE stand by the Lebanese people and offer our support in this ordeal. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured."
Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) approved this donation, which comes in the framework of Bahrain's relief contributions to Lebanon, which is facing an unprecedented ordeal.
Mubarak Al Hadi, BRCS director-general/act general secretary, said that the society was quick to take all necessary administrative measures to transfer this donation, and sent a letter in this regard to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
"The society opened the door for receiving private donations from individuals and institutions in Bahrain to contribute in providing other donation to the brothers in Lebanon, and the society is keen to carry out its duties towards Lebanon in this ordeal, and according to what the circumstances require, especially as the needs of Lebanon's relief and humanitarian aid is very large," Al Hadi added.
Al Hadi asserted the Bahrain Red Crescent's keenness to work with its partners, including voluntary and charitable organizations, and institutions, to strengthen the effectiveness of the Kingdom's presence in the areas of relief work at the local and global levels, and to provide assistance to the vulnerable and victims of disasters and conflicts inside and outside Bahrain. — SG
