With 745 new coronavirus cases recorded in Kuwait during the last 24 hours, the total number of infections in the country stood at 46,940 on Wednesday. Four new deaths from the virus brought the COVID-19 death toll to 358, according to the ministry of health. The country carried out 4,150 tests over 24 hours, said the ministry. The country has till date recorded 37,715 recoveries. All the new cases were in contact with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection, ministry spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad said in a daily update. He said 139 of the 8,867 currently active cases are "serious." Meanwhile, 49 more people have completed mandatory institutional quarantine and will have to spend 14 additional days in home isolation. The announcement comes as shoppers flocked to malls following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. The largest number of cases were recorded in the area of Al Farwaniya, a densely populated urban area south of the capital. The town of Al Jahra, to the west of Kuwait City, reported the second-highest number of cases, with 182. In terms of nationality, 434 of the cases were Kuwaiti — over half the number.
