KUALA LUMPUR — World No. 3 Laura Massaro won her first-ever CIMB KL Open title after a superb display to beat Alison Waters in the final at the Berjaya Times Square Sunday. In a repeat of the British national championship final last month, Massaro who lost to Waters, exacted sweet revenge by winning 11-9, 11-7, 11-6. After getting her tactics right against world No. 1 Nicol David in the semifinals, the 29-year-old Massaro once again worked her game plan to perfection against Waters, with whom she shares a long history, dating back to their junior days. It was her 11th Women's Squash Association (WSA) title and her second WSA World Series title, following her US Open triumph back in 2011. “I'm really happy to have won because I have never done so well in Malaysia in the past. I've only had one prior semifinal appearance here (in 2009) and was initially just looking to get past the quarterfinals,” said Massaro. In the men's event, world No. 6 Karim Darwish won his second KL title after commanding performance over compatriot Mohamed El Shorbagy 11-9, 12-10, 11-7 in 54 minutes. It was the 31-year-old Darwish's eighth win over the 23-year-old Shorbagy in 10 meetings and it was a repeat of the 2011 final which Darwish won, too. — Agencies
