JEDDAH — The Saudi Wildlife Authority celebrated the World Oceans Day, which is marked on June 8 every year, under the slogan "Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean." During the ceremony, the Chairman of the Saudi Wildlife Authority, Dr. Mohammed Qurban, highlighted the innovations in the fields related to the preservation of oceans and seas, biological diversity and ecosystems. He added that the Saudi Wildlife Authority is keen to participate in global environmental events, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is part of many agreements and protocols for protecting marine biodiversity and ecosystems, based on its awareness of the importance of preserving the marine environment and its components from any damage that threatens their survival. Dr. Qurban pointed out that the Saudi Wildlife Authority recently signed a number of MOUs to protect sea turtles, dugongs and migratory sharks. He added that the Saudi Wildlife Authority also contributed to organizing an important scientific forum aimed at raising awareness on the importance of preserving the marine environment and biodiversity in the Kingdom.
