Sultan Al-Sughair Saudi Gazette DAMMAM — The Eastern Province municipality has recently installed electronic traffic signs in Al-Khobar and Dammam. The local authority's director general for studies and supervision Abdulmohsen Al-Araini said 35 such signs have been installed so far. The signs aim to manage high volumes of traffic without creating congestions in any way. Al-Araini said this was an important project and one of the latest safety methods to control traffic, ease congestion, facilitate vehicle movement, reduce accidents and increase traffic safety. He said the electronic signs display changing messages that help control traffic flow and guide and alert drivers about road conditions, detours or bad weather such as heavy rain. He said: “At the municipality we have introduced private rooms to control the electronic traffic signs using digital chips placed in each sign's control box and wirelessly connected to other chips in the main control room. “In this room traffic messages are written for each sign individually.”
