RIYADH — A steady increase is seen in the daily corona infections and the number of recovered cases in Saudi Arabia. The health ministry on Wednesday recorded an increase of 2,691 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total to 62,545. Despite the increase in daily confirmed infections, the number of recoveries continues to grow as well with 1,844 new recoveries. A total of 33,478 individuals have made a recovery so far in the Kingdom. Ten people who had previously been tested positive for the virus have died, raising the Kingdom's relatively low death toll to 339, health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying. On Wednesday, Riyadh reported the highest number of infections at 815. It was followed by 311 in Jeddah, 306 in Makkah, 236 in Madinah, 157 in Dammam and 140 in Hufof. There were 86 new infections in Ad Diriyah, 71 in Qatif, 63 each in Jubail and Taif; 49 in Tabuk, 42 in Al-Khobar, 34 in Dhahran, 33 in Hail, 24 in Buraidah, 19 in Sharorah, 17 each in Al-Hada and Ar'ar; 12 each in Khamis Mushayt, Umluj and Hazm Al-Jalameed; and 10 in Umedom. The rest of the cases were scattered in different small cities and villages across the Kingdom, Dr. Al-Abdel Ali said. Saudi Arabia continues to expand its testing efforts with 18,094 new screenings conducted over the past 24 hours. The Kingdom has so far screened 636,178 people, he said. The spokesman said the virus outbreak may seem like it has become less aggressive, however, nothing about the virus has actually changed. He said people's actions and level of care have changed which has helped slow the spread of the outbreak in the Kingdom.
