RIYADH — The General Authority of Zakat and Tax (GAZT) has received approximately SR24 million during the first two weeks of Ramadan through its "Zakaty," application, Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday. The authority said the collected amount will be spent on all groups benefiting from the social security program of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. The authority revealed that more than 55,000 people have downloaded the application on their smart phones during the two weeks as it facilitates and enables individuals to pay their zakat electronically, in addition to "Zakat Gate" and "Zakat Phone" services. The electronic services are being provided in line with the precautionary measures taken by the authorities to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The inbuilt zakat calculator in the electronic services helps users calculate their zakat amount and facilitates them to pay it in an easy and reliable way. It also reminds them of the zakat dates and provides all the information related to it. Individuals can also pay their zakat by calling the Zakat phone on the number 19993, which is supervised by a qualified staff to answer all questions and inquiries daily during the holy month of Ramadan, and can access the Zakat) portal through www.zakaty.gov.sa, or by downloading the app.
