Qatar on Friday reported 761 more cases of coronavirus and 59 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of infections and recoveries to 8,525 and 809 respectively, state news agency QNA reported citing a statement from the Ministry of Public Health. Most of the new cases are of expatriate workers who contracted the infection from the previously affected people while some of the cases are of citizens too, according to the statement. All the newly infected patients have been quarantined and are receiving the necessary medical care, the statement added. So far, 10 people have died from the coronavirus in Qatar. The ministry also said it conducted 2,431 tests in last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests done so far to 75,888. The ministry claimed that the spike in the number of the COVID-19 cases is also due to the fact that the spread of the virus has begun to enter the peak stage where numbers are expected to continue to rise before they begin to gradually decline. — SG
