Jazan Region, at the southernmost border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), is a very significant socio-economic tributary to the area, in particular, and the Kingdom, in general as the agricultural sector in the region reflects it is all systems ‘green'. The region is promising due to the abundant fresh ground water, rains and flash floods that feed the area around the year. In addition, the availability of the main components such as fertile soil and good climate helps in creating a suitable environment for easily planting of several and various crops and at the lowest costs. That's why the region is called the Food Basket of the Kingdom. Under the wise leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, the government is providing the region with all facilities based on accurate, scientific and comprehensive program in the field of land reclamation, use of up-to-date irrigation approaches, in addition to other agricultural guidance and back up, including expanding the cultivable lands, through controlling pest, such that vegetation in the region was rekindled and consequently agricultural and pastoral activities have flourished. Among the main agricultural food products in the region are: Tomato, cucumber, eggplant, okra, mallow, watercress, green pepper, radish, water melon, sweet melon and pumpkin. The annual food production is put roughly at over 60,000 tons per annum, in addition, to cash crops such as corn, sesame, millet, peanut, soya beans and coffee. Jazan is also taking advantage of its miscellaneous topography and reliefs to overstep into producing equatorial and tropical fruits, mainly mango, fig, banana, guava, orange and grape fruit. Being a natural seaport, Jazan also is a mainstay for fishing and fishery, with about 45 percent of seafood out of the total annual production of the Kingdom. Livestock, with poultry, sheep, goat, cow and camel, estimated in hundred of thousands heads, in addition to beekeeping industry that produce a lot of honey, complete the wider picture of the region as the ever promising food security frontline of the Kingdom, being done in accordance with the Kingdom Vision 2030. — SPA
