The motorist who ran over a traffic policeman last Friday morning, April 3, 2020, killing the policeman on the spot, has been identified as a Saudi citizen in his twenties, the authorities said. The motorist, who ran away from the scene of the accident, hit the policeman while he was getting down from his vehicle on the Western Ring Road in Riyadh. The motorist has been arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution, among other regulatory measures implemented on him, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) cited the official spokesman of Riyadh Region Police Lt. Col. Shaker Bin Sulaiman Al-Tuwaijri as stating on Sunday. "After hitting the security man, the motorist fled the crime scene and went into hiding in a residential unit in western Riyadh," he said. "Despite scanty information and the alleged culprit's attempt to change his vehicle's features to mislead the security authorities, the investigation efforts led the security authorities to identifying the motorist and arresting him. "The vehicle he was driving, a Chevrolet Caprice, has been seized," the spokesman added. In his statement, the Riyadh Region Police spokesman said the security man was run over while security teams were carrying out their tasks on Friday morning (April 3 corresponding to Shaaban 10, 1441H). Among them was a security team from the region's Traffic Department on the Western Ring Road in Riyadh.
