The President of Al Faisal University Dr. Mohammad Al Hayaza and German Ambassador Jörg Ranau opened together the exhibition Images of Science at Al Faisal University. The exhibition will be on display until end of March and is open to all visitors. The exhibition presents scientifically relevant but equally beautiful images of the current research of the Max-Planck Society. Background information about the 20 images can be accessed through an app. In their opening speeches Dr. Mohammad and Ambassador Ranau highlighted the thriving academic cooperation between Al Faisal University and German cultural and educational institutions. It's most recent example is the arrival of a DAAD-lecturer Tim Friedrich at Al Faisal University. Friedrich will teach German and serve as a focal point for all questions related to higher education in Germany. With a view to the high standards of Al Faisal University, Ambassador Ranau said, "This University is the right place to show the Images of Science". "The Images of Science are not only an art exhibition and nor are they a purely scientific presentation either. They are much more, they are art created by nature itself," he added. The Max-Planck-Society encompasses more than 80 research institutes for the sciences and the humanities in Germany and abroad. It is also involved in two flagship projects of Saudi-German research cooperation. It has partnered with Ludwig Maximilian's University Munich and King Saud University to set up an atto-second lab for fundamental research in Physics at KSU. And in a very different domain, the Max-Planck-Institute for the Science of Human History is investigating the history of the ancient oases in the northwest of Saudi Arabia together with Saudi archaeologist in the so-called Green Arabia Project. — SG
