The International Indian school Dammam (IISD) celebrated the 71st Republic Day of India on Sunday with pomp and color. This is an occasion for students, parents and the community to reaffirm their commitment to liberty, fraternity and equality across our society and among all our citizens and to celebrate the spirit of being an Indian The Chairman of the IISD Managing Committee Kaleem Ahmad was the Chief Guest for the Republic Day celebration. The members of the School managing committee, Principal and HOI Zubair Ahamed Khan, former chairmen and members of the managing committee, principals of neighboring schools, invited guests and dignitaries, school officials, teachers, parents and students were present. The chairman and the dignitaries were given a ceremonial welcome by the school Scouts and Guides. Ahmad hoisted the Indian National Flag and took the salute at a march past presented by various contingents, including school Cabinet, Scouts, Guides, cubs and bulbuls. The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an by Mohd Haroon Zama Khan and Zayad Azam translated the verses. The Principal Khan welcomed the guests, dignitaries and the members from the Indian community and read out the president's message. The MC Chairman appreciated and congratulated the students and teachers and the school community for the spectacular performance. He highlighted the need of inculcating love and spirit of patriotism among the young generation. He advised the community to keep the nation's unity, which originates from diversities. The highlights of this year's celebrations was a parade were the tableaux exhibiting the cultures of the various states and union territories of India. These moving exhibits depicted scenes of activities of people. The dance, music and songs of that particular state accompanied each display. Each display brought out the diversity and richness of the culture of India and the whole show gave festive air to the occasion. Students also participated in various colorful drills bringing out the patriotic fervor. Meritorious students were awarded special awards and commendation for academic excellence. — SG
