In October 2018, the Wi-Fi Alliance officially announced an all-new Wi-Fi naming system for Wi-Fi generations, with Wi-Fi 6 as the simplified name for IEEE 802.11ax. Wi-Fi 6 improves on Wi-Fi 5 with more than four times the maximum bandwidth per client and number of concurrent clients, and more than three times lower latency.
