The Misk Art Institute, an affiliate of Prince Muhammad Bin Salman Foundation (the Misk Foundation), has reopened the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Hall for Fine Arts, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.
The function was held under the patronage of Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan, minister of culture and chairman of the Board of Directors of the MiSK Art Institute.
The purpose of reopening of the gallery is to restore its major role in invigorating the Saudi art scene, to become the hall for showcasing works of art and exchanging creative experiences.
The step is meant to revive the important role the hall played in supporting Saudi men and women artists at the beginning of their art careers.
In this regard, the hall has embraced many young talents and the works of numerous pioneering artists, deemed among the early generation of artists. They laid the foundations of an important stage in the Saudi visual arts movement.
The Hall also bears witness to major developments in the Kingdom's fine art movement.
Alongside the inauguration ceremony, the "Story Behind the Place" exhibition was launched to celebrate the 35thanniversary of hall's founding, It reviewed the history of its first decade, in addition to presenting works, documents, accomplishments and a whole archive of booklets covering the arts exhibitions held during a decade – the period between 1986 and 1996G (corresponding to 1406 – 1416H).
The exhibition will also showcase the names of artists participating in that era and their pictures, to eternalize their memory for their contributions to Saudi art.
During the past period, the Institute worked on preparing the hall and adding a number of utilities and services, so that it opens its doors with a new and modern look, depicting a historic, educational and interactive museum.
Its aim is to attract various segments of the society, beginning with enthusiasts of culture and arts, and even students of universities, institutes and schools.
It is noteworthy that the hall was set up in 1985 by as royal gesture from King Fahd (May Allah have mercy on his soul), under the name "Fine Arts Hall", in appreciation for the efforts exerted to support art and artists.
