JEDDAH — There are 8.52 million Saudi and expatriate workers in the government and the private sector by the end of the second quarter of 2019, local daily Al-Madina reported on Tuesday quoting the General Authority for Statistics (GaStat). The authority said expatriates working for the government and private sector were 6.61 million while Saudis were 1.91 million. It said most of the working people were concentrated in the private sector establishments with a ratio of 96.9 percent representing about 8.25 million while they were 267,400 in the government sector representing 3.1 percent. GaStat said there were 1.67 million Saudis working in the private sector companies and establishments representing about 87.6 percent while their number in the government sector was 236,900 representing about 12.4 percent. The authority said as many as 6.58 million expatriates were working for the private sector representing about 99.5 percent while a small number of them were working for the government. It said by the end of the second quarter of the year, there were about a million public and private establishments in the Kingdom. According to the authority, about 468,400 of the establishments in the Kingdom, representing about 47 percent, were doing wholesale and retail business.
