Jeddah hosting ‘The Wizard of Oz' show
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 03 - 11 - 2019

The city of Jeddah is preparing to host the stunning and globally acclaimed "The Wizard of Oz" theatrical performance brought to Saudi Arabia by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), presented by Broadway Entertainment Group in association with Apex Touring, and organized by Imagine Entertainment Company. The theatrical masterpiece is being shown at the basketball court within the King Abdullah Sports City, on Nov. 1– 8.
The major theatrical production has gained admiration from Saudi spectators since it started showing in the Kingdom in October. It celebrates the 1900 classic novel written by American author L. Frank Baum which incorporates numerous morals, symbolizes American culture, and is loved by children and adults alike. The timeless novel was later adapted in 1939 into a motion picture that won an Academy Award for best original score.
The excitement begins with the first moments of the play which tells the tale of a young girl named Dorothy Gale living on a farm in the state of Kansas, USA. Tornadoes transport Dorothy into the world of Oz where breathtaking beauty and vibrant colors are abundant. On her adventure through the world of Oz, Dorothy encounters several new friends including Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and the Scarecrow, all who teach her valuable life lessons on the way.
The Riyadh Season also hosted "The Wizard of Oz" last Oct. 16 – 26. Earlier, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) also presented the event last Oct. 2 – 12
Tickets can be purchased at prices starting from SR150 at the venue prior to the show, or electronically via Platinumlist.com.
Scheduled show timings for the remaining days of the schedule in November are as follows: from Nov. 4 – 6 at 6:00 pm, and for Nov. 7 – 8 at 3:30 pm and 8:00 pm.
