JAZAN — The Border Guard personnel in Jazan region evacuated a 49-year-old Ukrainian sailor who was suffering from chest and heart pain onboard a ship in the Red Sea. Border Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Misfer Ghannam Al-Quraini said that In accordance with the commitments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) 1979, and in continuation of the humanitarian tasks provided by Border Guard in search and rescue operations, Jeddah Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (JMRCC) received a call and an email at the weekend from the captain of the ship (RAINBOW) flying the flag of Hong Kong informing about the sickness of the Ukrainian sailor. They asked for help and his evacuation. He added that the information was immediately analyzed. The ship was found at 140 nautical miles west of Jazan Port. The center set up a contact with the emergency doctor in Jeddah to identify the patient's health condition and to give him initial aid. The case was stable. MRCC identified a meeting point for the border guard ship Rafha and the patient was evacuated to Prince Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Maritime Base in Jazan. JMRCC coordinated with the concerned authorities and the shipping agent to finalize the procedures and the patient was transferred to a hospital in Jazan on an ambulance of the Saudi Red Crescent for tests, examinations and was provided with the necessary medical care, while the ship continued sailing to its destination.
