Okaz/Saudi Gazette RIYADH – The criminal court in Dammam slapped fine amounting to SR 20,000 on a famous woman Snapchatter, having more than 1.2 million followers, for posting video of a Saudi couple without their permission. Sources told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the court also ruled the closure of the account for 30 days and confiscate her mobile phone. The woman was convicted of committing cybercrime by posting the video of a Saudi citizen and his wife on Snapchat without their consent. The citizen lodged a complaint with the Al-Khobar police station against the Snapchatter who photographed the couple during their visit to a popular restaurant and published two videos on the social networking site with derogatory comments. During the trial, the defendant confessed to taking the video but justified her act, claiming that the situation was romantic, and that she did not intend to offend the couple. The court ruled that the Snapchatter violated Article 13 of the Anti-Cyber Crime Law by offending the couple through intruding into their private life.
