DUBAI — Bloomberg and the Initiative Center at Misk Foundation (non-profit organization) have begun the fourth edition of their intensive, week-long financial journalism training program in Dubai for Saudi students. The initiative aims to advance financial education and journalism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through training conducted by Matthew Winkler, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Bloomberg News, and more than 20 Bloomberg journalists and analysts from London and the Middle East. Sixty-two young Saudi reporters have taken part in the training since the establishment of the program. The course is based in Bloomberg's newsroom in Dubai, where students are learning about Bloomberg's brand of data-driven journalism in the news organization's largest Middle East bureau. The Saudi participants, whose majors include journalism, communications, media and public relations, were all selected for their strong interest in journalism. During the week, the students are learning firsthand about covering regional markets, reporting on companies and finance, journalistic ethics and principles, and multimedia journalism. They will also learn how to improve their writing skills and prepare for job interviews through hands-on workshops. In addition to financial journalism courses, Misk and Bloomberg announced a joint initiative to support the advancement of Saudi youth through the provision of financial training and technology. As a result of the collaboration, universities across Saudi Arabia are being provided with dedicated student trainings, support for faculty staff and professors to integrate capital markets content into their curricula, and access to the Bloomberg Terminal and its global community.
