JEDDAH — The residents of Abruq Al-Raghama 3 District have requested Jeddah Mayor Saleh Al-Turki to visit their neighborhood to see with his own eyes the deteriorating situation of the district which has been completely neglected by the municipality. Residents said the municipality has ignored their previous appeals in which they complained against the streets which were full of ditches jeopardizing their lives and damaging their cars. The residents said the streets have not been asphalted for more than 10 years since the Jeddah rains and floods of 2009. Saeed Al-Ghamdi, a resident, said the former mayor did not respond to their demands and hoped that the new mayor would come personally to their district or send a team of specialists to assess the damage. Mohammed Al-Qurashi said the neighborhood lacks cleanliness and is replete with rodents and insects threatening them with various diseases. "Our streets have been turned into bumps and ditches with the asphalt layer completely eroded," he added. Ahmed Al-Harbe said the entry and exiting points need to be revamped with the traffic congestion resulting from the opening of the schools. The residents said their district has 20 schools and a health center but lacks public parks. They said the only public park in the neighborhood has been made into a garbage dumping place.
