Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) Abdulrahman Al-Fadley has announced that the Kingdom would provide $2 million to the organization. The contributed funds are for enhancing the group's work and providing capabilities. He also called on member states to adopt food security strategy. Addressing the opening session of the IOFS General Assembly here on Thursday, Al-Fadley said the Kingdom attaches great importance to agricultural development, environment and food security in all its policies emanating from its contributions to national, regional and global food security. In his speech, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen said that the organization is working to implement a comprehensive policy to develop agricultural products and food security, and improve Islamic environmental cooperation in food and agriculture sectors. He noted that food security is one of the highest priorities of the OIC that is particularly important given that the economies of the majority of the member states are based on agriculture, which accounts for about 12 percent of the member states' GDP. — SG/SPA
