KSrelief's volunteer medical team saves life of Yemeni infant
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 23 - 08 - 2019

The volunteer medical team of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief ) has saved the life of a 10-day-old Yemeni child after conducting in Mukalla on Friday an emergency interventional catheterization at the Pulse of Life Center for Cardiology and Surgery.
Jana was born with a blockage in the pulmonary valve and tightness in the triple valve that prevented the arrival of blood to her lungs, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
She suffered from severe lack of oxygen in the body which required urgent intervention.
"The medical campaign comes within the framework of the voluntary children's heart campaigns to treat difficult and dangerous cases, pointing out that the volunteer medical campaign is the third campaign for the KSrelief for Open Heart Surgery and Catheterization for Yemeni children in less than six months," said head of the volunteer medical team Prof. Jamil Atta.
"This campaign comes specifically in response to a humanitarian appeal for urgent intervention to save the life of the female infant Jana, who was born with a blockage in the pulmonary valve and tightness in the triple valve that prevented the arrival of blood to her lungs and severe lack of oxygen in the body that required urgent intervention. Jana's life was at stake, as her family couldn't treat her in Yemen and taking her abroad was impossible due the deterioration of her condition," he added.
The Joint Forces of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, KSrelief and the Saudi Royal Air Force played a big role in saving Jana's life due to their immediate response and facilitating the task of the volunteer medical team by transporting it to Mukalla in Yemen.
It is noteworthy that the urgent volunteer medical campaign has been able to treat 20 children suffering from heart problems coming from families with limited income. The aim was to bring happiness to the children's families and alleviate the human suffering.
Engineer Adnan Bashuaib, the father of girl, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the KSrelief volunteer medical team and the Joint Forces of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen for their noble initiative in conducting an emergency interventional catheterization on his infant daughter, within the urgent volunteer medical campaign by KSrelief in Mukalla.
He added that on the second day after Jana's birth he noticed that her body had a blue color. On conducting a medical checkup, it turned out that she was suffering from lack of oxygen in the body due to the existence of two holes in the heart with a blockage in the pulmonary valve. We tried to save her life with blockage prevention injections, but it was impossible to find these injections in all the governorates of Yemen.
Jana's father said he was short of means and with the passing of every day, his fears and suffering increased, until his brother contacted those in charge of sending appeals at KSrelief. They submitted the required reports on her difficult condition. He thanked Allah Almighty that they had informed the Center, which decided to dispatch a medical team to Yemen to conduct the necessary curative intervention for Jana. A date was set for the arrival of the team, he said.
Bashuaib further said that he took his daughter from Tarim to Mukalla, crossing some 320 km on land for six hours. His mind was preoccupied with the arrival time of the KSrelief medical team for treating Jana. They then arrived at the Pulse of Life Center for Cardiology and Surgery in Mukalla. Jana was admitted in the ICU waiting for the arrival of the medical team, which arrived on time and Jana underwent the operation.
