Harris Pye UAE strengthens its footprint in Egypt
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 08 - 2019

Harris Pye Engineering Group UAE, a global service provider supplying the offshore, marine and industrial sectors, recently signed a contract with Egyptian Joint Stock company, Canal Sugar. As per the terms of the agreement, Harris Pye will supply five 40tph, horizontal, three-pass, and multi-tubular smoke tube boilers to what is expected to be one of the largest beet sugar production facilities in the world.
Harris Pye's involvement with this mega project builds upon the UAE's reputable business standing by contributing to the country's capital and workforce. From an Egyptian economy standpoint, the facility will contribute to filling the shortage in sugar production by 75%, providing supplies worth $650 million and exporting by-products worth $120 annually.
Harris Pye will showcase its world-class engineering capabilities to execute the boiler system of Canal Sugar's mega project in Al Minya, Egypt (350 KM South of the Capital, Cairo). Utilizing its well-equipped Sharjah workshop, Harris Pye will complete a portion of the fabrication required for the project before transporting it to Al Minya for the execution of the boiler system.
Through securing this contract, the globally renowned engineering company accelerates its growth plan by strategically working towards its objective of development into new markets. Additionally, Harris Pye also strengthens its bid to be the preferred Tier One EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) choice for the industry.
Commenting on this milestone company achievement, Mark Prendergast, Chief Executive Officer of Harris Pye, emphasized, "We are pleased to contribute to the prestigious Canal Sugar project. Our provisions to this major project will align with the company philosophy of ensuring the highest standards of design, service and quality. The strength of Harris Pye lies in our unparalleled ability to conceive turnkey solutions which best suit a customer's specific requirements, and we are eager to apply this to meet the needs of this major project."
The project of Canal Sugar aims at the development and reclamation of 181k feddans (77k ha) desert land located at the West of Minya to grow 2.5mn MT of sugar beet per year in addition to other crops. Moreover, investments of USD $1bn and the refinery's capacity of 900k MT/year, highlight the major significance of the Canal Sugar project in bolstering two economies.
Islam Salem, Chief Executive Officer of Canal Sugar, clarified, "We have the utmost confidence in Harris Pye to deliver top-notch quality boiling systems, given their proven standard of industry excellence. These deliverables represent a critical component of our new state-of-the-art mega refinery project in Al Minya, and Harris Pye's expertise in safety, timing and quality will provide us with a significant competitive edge. We look forward to a fruitful cooperation that will greatly benefit both parties involved."
Harris Pye's role will extend beyond the delivery of the fifth boiler. Upon completion of supply within the set timeframe of 45 weeks, Harris Pye will further provide the necessary manpower for the project. This will include an in-house design, QA and project management team to complete the works per an agreed matrix of responsibilities. The project is expected to start commissioning by early 2021. — SG
