RIYADH — As many as 181,000 Saudis, who were above 60 years of age, had medical insurance last year, business daily Al-Eqtisadiah reported on Tuesday quoting the General Authority for Statistics (GaStat). The aging citizens represented about six percent of the total number of the medically insured Saudis who were 3.08 million. According to the GaStat, about two million citizens in the age group of 34 years had medical insurance. They represented about 65 percent of the entire medically insured citizens. There were 265,533 Saudis aged between 35-39 who had medical insurance last year followed by the citizens who were between 40-45 years who were 193,486. The authority said the Saudis between 50-54 years of age were about 32,000 while those between 55-59 were 113,000. Makkah had 967,286 medically insured Saudis representing about 31 percent followed by the Eastern Province which had 844,602 representing about 27 percent and Riyadh with 758,227 representing about 25 percent.
