Iran hand behind Abha attack Abha airport traffic normal, flights on schedule
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 12 - 06 - 2019

RIYADH — Abha airport, which came under a projectile attack fired by Houthi terrorist militias early Wednesday, was operating normally, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
It said in a statement all flights were on schedule.
US, Arab and Gulf and many African countries strongly condemned the attack.
US Embassy to Riyadh joined Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Palestine, Djibouti and others in denouncing the terror attack on civilian facilities.
Three women and two children were among 26 people injured in the projectile attack on arrivals hall at Abha International Airport by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militias early Wednesday morning.
Col. Turki Al-Malki, spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, said eight people with moderate injuries were transferred to hospital while 18 were treated at the site for minor injuries.
The airport lounge was also damaged, he said.
Among the injured women one each is from Yemen, India and Saudi Arabia. The two injured children are Saudis.
Malki said military and security forces were working to determine the type of projectile used in the terrorist attack.
The Houthi militias claimed through their media full responsibility for the terrorist attack saying a cruise missile was used.
This constitutes a clear recognition and full responsibility for targeting civilians and civilian objects that are subject to special protection under international humanitarian law.
This could amount to a war crime.
This attack also proves the terrorist militia's acquisition of new special weapons, the continuation of the Iranian regime's support and practice of cross-border terrorism, and the continued violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2216 and Resolution 2231.
Col. Malki stressed that in the face of the Houthi militias' terrorist attacks as well as their violations, the Command of Joint Forces of the Coalition will take urgent and timely measures to deter the terrorist militias and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian objects.
In addition, terrorist operatives responsible for the planning and execution of this terrorist attack will be held accountable in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
