Command of the Joint Forces of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen: The attack on Abha International Airport and the targeting of civilians by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militia is a brutal terrorist act
Further to the statement issued by the Command of Joint Forces of the Coalition on the evening of Sunday 23 June 2019 regarding a terrorist attack on Abha International Airport, carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia, the Official Spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Col. Turki Almalki said that the terrorist attack killed a Syrian resident, and wounded 21 civilians of various nationalities: 13 Saudis, 4 Indians, 2 Egyptians, 2 Bangladeshis, including 3 women (one Egyptian and two Saudis) and two Indian children. All the wounded were transferred to hospital for treatment: three of them left the hospital while 18 are still receiving treatment, including (13) minor injuries, (3) moderate cases, and two critical cases. One of the restaurants at the airport (McDonald's) was damaged due to glass shattering, and 18 vehicles were damaged, in addition to some simple physical damage. Col. Almalki added that the Houthi terrorist militia continues its immoral practices by targeting civilians and civil properties protected by international humanitarian law and its customary rules, which amount to war crimes according to the provisions of international humanitarian law. Through its media, the militia claimed full responsibility for this terrorist act using an Ababeel/Qasef drone, which constitutes a clear confession and full responsibility for targeting civilians and civilian properties that are specifically protected under international humanitarian law. Thus, targeting civilians and civilian properties in such a systematic manner amounts to a war crime. Col. Almalki also said that the continuation of such acts of terrorism, using special advanced capabilities, proves the Iranian regime's involvement in supporting the Houthi terrorist militia and the continued violation of relevant Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2216 and resolution 2231. Concluding his statement, Almalki stressed that in the face of these Houthi militia terrorist attacks and immoral violations, the Command of the Joint Forces of the Coalition continues to implement strict measures to deter this terrorist militia and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian properties. Terrorist operatives responsible for planning and executing this terrorist attack will be held accountable in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
