RIYADH — The first instance courts in Saudi Arabia issued more than 62,000 rulings last month, up 10 percent compared to the same month last year, according to a monthly report issued by the Ministry of Justice. Rulings in general and family cases top the list, each accounting for 34 percent, followed by criminal cases with 21 percent. Labor cases and commercial cases were 6 percent and 5 percent respectively. General, family and criminal courts issued over 55,000 rulings last month, which was up 22 percent from the same month last years. The number of judgments issued daily ranged from 2,198 to 2,738, at an average of 2,503 per day. On the other hand, commercial courts issued 3,315 rulings last month, up 74 percent, while labor courts issued 3,758 judgments, with wage disputes accounting for 70 percent of the total. The Saudi justice system has recently witnessed major strides in digitization, which simplified procedures and shortened the litigation time frame. In addition, courthouses have been internally reorganized to streamline judicial work.
