DAMMAM — A Japanese businessman has fallen in love with the Saudi traditional dress and started buying large quantities of it to give as gifts to his friends in Europe and America. Tushawa Motayo said he became awed by the Saudi thobe during his meetings with businessmen and officials in the Kingdom. “I have fallen in love with the Saudi traditional dress especially the “Mishlah (overcoat),” he said. He said he started communicating with a number of his Saudi friends through Twitter until he was able to reach the young Saudi fashion designer Radi Al-Nahdi who explained to him the way the “Mishlah” is made and worn. Al-Nahdi said he explained to the Japanese businessman the importance of the “Mishlah” and told him that young and old Saudis wear it during official functions. He then presented a number of the “Mishlah's” as gift to the Japanese businessman along with other accessories as a token of the friendship between the two countries. Al-Nahdi said he was happy about the affection of the Japanese businessman for traditional Saudi clothing. Motayo said he felt very proud to wear the Saudi dress and added that he would buy large quantities of it to give as gifts to his European and American friends.
