RIYADH — On behalf of Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, President of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) Prince Sultan Bin Salman will open a forum and exhibition on “Historic Pictures in Saudi Newspapers” at Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center here on Sunday. The exhibition is organized by the Charitable Heritage Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Information, King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) and King Fahd National Library, with the participation of Saudi Press Agency (SPA) and the Saudi press organizations. Prince Sultan, who is also chairman of the Heritage Foundation, thanked Crown Prince Salman for his care and attention to the Kingdom's national heritage and history. He also lauded the role of the press in the formation of culture and preservation of the features of the national identity, SPA reported Saturday. Prince Sultan highlighted the significance of the exhibition in linking the younger generation with various phases of the nation's evolution to which their fathers and forefathers had made remarkable contributions, as well as in documenting these contributions by the local newspapers. “Another edition of the exhibition focusing on the photographs related to the history of Saudi Arabia, published by the Arab and international newspapers, will be organized soon,” he said, adding that this exhibition will be taken to a number of cities and regions across the Kingdom. The forum and exhibition coincides with the Riyadh International Book Fair, which will begin at the same venue on Tuesday. Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja announced the names of 10 winners of the ministry's Book Prize for 2013. Dr. Nasser Al-Hujailan, undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture and Information for Cultural Affairs and Chairman of the Prize Committee, said Dr. Khoja will give away the prizes to the winners at the opening ceremony of the fair. The prizes are worth a total of SR2 million, and each book will get SR200,000. The winners are Turki Sudairi, Rashid Abdulkarim, Saleh Al-Ghamdi, Abdullah Bakhashwain, Abdullatif Al-Awfi, Abdu Khal, Mohammed Al-Harbi, Nizar Madani, Hana Hijazi and Yusuf Al-Mohaimeed. Meanwhile, the book fair administration will introduce the arrangements for e-sale and home delivery of books for the first time during the upcoming fair. This will be in coordination with the Saudi Post, said Abdullah Al-Kinani, general supervisor of public libraries under the ministry and assistant director of the fair for technical affairs. “The fair administration concluded an agreement with e-mall (www.e-mall.com.sa), an arm of Saudi Post, to ensure delivery of purchased books to the customers,” he said.
