Nadia Al-Fawwaz Saudi Gazette ABHA — The Ministry of Culture and Information in collaboration with the Association of Saudi Cartoonists (ASC) is preparing to organize the second competition for Saudi cartoonists in April, it was announced on Monday. Director of the ministry's department of media and publishing Mohammed Abbas said the competition will be held under the slogan, “Corruption banned … smiling allowed”, and is open to both amateurs and professionals. The last date for receiving entries is March 31, he added. Abbas said each entrant could participate with a maximum of three submissions and draw on A4 or A3 size paper. He said: “The cartoons may be in color or black and white.” He said Arab cartoonists, who will not be allowed to officially participate, could show their work outside the competition. Abbas said amateur cartoonists could participate with manual or digital submissions, while professionals can submit work already published by newspapers or on electronic sites. He said entries would only be accepted if they are emailed to [email protected]. “We will not accept work sent by post or submitted in person.” He said a judging panel would assess the entries and announce the winners, who will receive cash prizes in addition to shields and certificates. Chairman of ASC Abdullah Sayel expected this year's competition to reveal some talented Saudi cartoonists. “The first competition produced a number of good Saudi cartoonists whose work is now being published in newspapers and on websites.”
