International Indian School Principal Syed Masood Ahmed, team captain Faris Ayoob and coach-cum-manager Rasheed Alikkal receive a plaque of appreciation from Jeddah Sports Club Chairman Abdul Rafeeq as other JSC members applaud. JEDDAH — Jeddah Sports Club (JSC), pioneer in soccer academy among Indian expatriates in Jeddah, felicitated the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) football team, which won a meritorious place in the CBSE National Championship in India recently. The IISJ team, which won the soccer title among the CBSE-affiliated schools in the Kingdom, won a place in the quarterfinals in the national meet in India which saw 37 teams from all over India and abroad vying for honors. Its amazing victorious march was halted by eventual champion Tata Academy School. JSC, which kick-started soccer coaching in an open ground at the old airport area two years ago, has gone a long way in training schoolboys. Its wards have now earned berths in the IISJ team. After Adil Ashraf recited a few verses from the holy Qur'an, JSC co-ordinator Saleem Aboo made opening remarks and welcomed guests, players, parents and soccer fans. JSC Chairman Abdul Rafeeq Kannur congratulated the IISJ team and its coach-cum-manager Rasheed Alikkal and thanked chief guest Syed Masood Ahmed, IISJ Principal, and Headmaster Noufal Palakkoth for their presence. The Principal and the headmaster appreciated the efforts of JSC and thanked its rare gesture of honoring the school team as part of its Indian Republic Day celebrations. JSC honored each member of the IISJ team and its coach with a certificate and a prize. It also presented a plaque of appreciation to the school which was graciously received by the IISJ principal and headmaster along with team captain and the coach. In the friendly match, the IISJ team proved its superiority by running over JSC team 6-2, after leading 5-0 at half-time. However, JSC coach P.R. Saleem's pep talk during the break inspired the JSC boys who fought back in the second session and found the target twice. — SG
