DAMMAM — Though the incident happened more than 18 years ago in Dammam, the Eastern Province police are still continuing investigations into the case of the baby boy who was kidnapped from the city's Maternity and Children's Hospital, a local daily reported. Police spokesman Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Rigaiti said investigations were still continuing in the case. Ali Al-Ammari, the father of the kidnapped child, said six hours after delivery, a tall black woman entered the hospital room of his wife who was still under the effects of sedation, grabbed the newborn baby and ran away. “Nobody stopped her,” he lamented in an obvious criticism of the hospital's security. He said his boy was born on Sept. 19, 1996, and he named him Mohammed. He said the nurses brought the baby to his semi-conscious mother and left him alone with her in the room. “The black woman sneaked into the room, snatched the baby and ran away,” he said. “There was no reaction from the officials and security of the hospital though the kidnapping took place right in front of their eyes,” he said. The father said since that time he has never stopped searching for his kidnapped baby. He keeps pestering the authorities to not let the case slide into the “unsolved mysteries” file. Al-Ammari has also demanded that he and his family be compensated for the psychological and social damages they have suffered and also asked for the punishment of everyone in the hospital who may have a hand in the disappearance of his child. “All these years I kept my hope alive. I have a feeling that my son is still alive but is only living a short distance away from me,” he said.
