WASHINGTON — The Winnipeg Jets got their offense on track with a 4-2 win over the Capitals Tuesday, keeping Washington winless to start the new NHL season. The Jets (1-1-1), who had scored just twice in two opening defeats, fell behind 1-0 to Washington before Evander Kane and Andrew Ladd netted power-play goals to give the visitors a 2-1 lead in the first period. Blake Wheeler and Jim Slater padded the Jets' lead to 4-1 in the second before Troy Brouwer scored a consolation goal late in the third. Ondrej Pavelec made 32 saves for the win. Alex Ovechkin assisted on a first-period goal to Matt Hendricks for Washington (0-2-0), who suffered a 6-3 loss to Tampa Bay in their season-opener Saturday. Ovechkin, a two-time Hart Trophy winner, has yet to score this season. Braden Holtby stopped 35 Winnipeg shots but it was not enough to get the Capitals in the win column. Sharks 6, Oilers 3: Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture each had two goals and an assist as the San Jose Sharks won their second in a row to start the abbreviated NHL season, defeating the Oilers and ruin Edmonton's home opener. Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Dan Boyle also scored and Joe Thornton had three assists for the Sharks (2-0-0). Taylor Hall, Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz replied for the Oilers (1-1-0). San Jose struck first on a two-man advantage just three minutes into the match as Joe Pavelski fed it to Boyle at the top of the circle and his blast got past Edmonton's starting goalie Devan Dubnyk. Avalanche 3, Kings 1: Gabriel Landeskog and David Jones scored 1:35 apart in the final period to help Colorado rally for a win over the Kings in the Avalanche's home opener. P.A. Parenteau also added his first goal in an Avalanche sweater midway through the third period to help the team bounce back from a season opening loss in Minnesota. Kyle Clifford's goal in the opening period gave the Kings their first lead of the season and, given the way Jonathan Quick was playing in net, looked like it just might hold up. But Landeskog beat Quick with a shot off a rebound early in the third. Soon after, Jones followed by sending a wrist shot over Quick's outstretched glove on a power play. Semyon Varlamov made the lead hold up as he finished with 28 saves in front of a revved-up crowd. Devils 3, Flyers 0: Martin Brodeur made 24 saves for his 120th NHL shutout, Ilya Kovalchuk scored on a short-handed penalty shot, and the Devils won their home opener in front of an enthusiastic sellout crowd with a victory over the winless Flyers. Lightning 4, Hurricanes 1: Keith Aulie scored the momentum-shifting goal that propelled the Lightning past the Hurricanes. Canadiens 4, Panthers 1: Andrei Markov scored two goals, his first in two seasons, and Alex Galchenyuk had the first of his NHL career to help the Canadiens beat the Panthers. Stars 2, Red Wings 1: Michael Ryder scored in the first and third periods, and Kari Lehtonen came within 3.4 seconds of a shutout in the Stars' win over the Red Wings. Other results: Blackhawks 3, Blues 2; Predators 3, Wild 1 — Agencies
