JEDDAH – Police in Jeddah have arrested four African men in connection with a series of muggings targeting bank customers in several local neighborhoods. Once they saw a customer leaving the bank holding an envelope of cash, they would snatch the envelope and run away, police said. Jeddah police formed a team of officers to investigate the case and kept the four suspects under surveillance in a bid to catch them red-handed. Officers were dispatched to several banks where customers reported that they had been robbed. When the four men were approaching a citizen who was holding an envelope with money inside, officers arrested them. They confessed to investigators that they pulled off several muggings. In some cases, they followed customers closely and once they left their cars to buy something or perform prayer, the four men would break the windows and take the money from their vehicles. A Jeddah police spokesman said investigations are still ongoing to find out how many offenses they committed. He urged large companies to assign security guards to their representatives who go to the bank to withdraw money. He also called on the public not to leave their money inside their cars.
