Jeddah — Police in Jeddah are investigating the mugging of a Saudi citizen who had an envelope containing SR10,000 snatched from him. The citizen obtained cash from a currency exchange office and was mugged when he left the office. Security personnel pursued the suspect and caught him. The suspect admitted that he targeted currency exchange offices because police have enforced their presence around banks. This is the first reported mugging incident of a customer who had exchanged currency in Jeddah. The police have increased their presence around banks, as customers had been targeted as they exited. Their efforts resulted in the arrest of a number of suspects, but this led criminals to target currency exchange offices instead. Jeddah police spokesman First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq warned the public against carrying large amounts of money or leaving it unattended inside cars.
