MADINAH – Hotels and other accommodation in the vicinity of the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah have witnessed high occupancy rates since the beginning of the first semester school vacation. Many Saudi nationals, expatriates and citizens of the GCC countries prefer Madinah as a destination to spend the vacation in a spiritual atmosphere. Executive director of the Saudi Tourism and Antiquities Commission in Madinah Province Yusuf Al-Muzayini said religious sanctity distinguishes Madinah from other cities, in addition to the cool weather. Madinah also has various kinds of tourist facilities including historical and heritage sites and shopping centers, he said. These have contributed in attracting thousands of visitors to Madinah. Al-Muzayini expected reservations at the city's 199 hotels and 32 furnished apartment units to reach record levels throughout the school holidays. He said land and air transport routes to and from Madinah would also witness an increase in activity. Al-Muzayini confirmed that the department's licensing and quality section is carrying out field tours to monitor services in the accommodation sector and whether they have complied with tourist regulations. He appealed to visitors and residents of the city to benefit from the Information Center at Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport. Visitors will be provided information, maps and guidance. He added that any complaints will be received through the toll-free number 8007550000. – SG/SPA
