RIYADH – As many as 29 Saudi cities have been classified as the most vulnerable to flooding, according to sources at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs. The sources attributed this to the findings of a study, being carried out by four government bodies, including the ministry, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Geological Survey and Presidency of Meteorology & Environment. The focal point of the study is on the topography, population, volume of investments and the quantity of rain received in these cities. Meanwhile, a national strategy for rainwater drainage and preventing dangers from flooding has been completed, and it has been submitted to the highest authorities for approval. It was proposed to appropriate SR20.7 billion to implement the strategy as part of the current five-year development plan.
