SAKHIR — Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) will be ushering in the new calendar year with plenty of high-octane action on the drag strip in the third round of the 2012-2013 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship here. More than 100 drivers from Bahrain and across the Gulf are expected to compete in what is widely accepted to be one of the region's most popular championships. The meeting is being organized by the Bahrain Drag Racing Club in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation and BIC, the home of motorsport in the Middle East. The weekend's events flag off Wednesday night with a test and tune session, starting from 7 p.m. Action continues Thursday evening with the round's qualifying runs, while all the racing will take place Friday. Events on both days begin at 6 p.m. The third round of the season follows an historic second meeting when four new records, including three world records and one Middle East record, were set. American Gary White and Bahraini Ebrahim Kanoo of E. Kanoo Racing Team set new world records competing in the Outlaw Rear-Wheel-Drive category. Adel Hassan followed suit with a new world record in the Street Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD)/RWD class; while Khalid Mohammed, making a much-anticipated return following a season-long hiatus from the national championship, set a new Middle East record in the Pro Mod class. All four racers are once again expected to be amongst the top names entered in this weekend's events. Everyone is welcome to attend the upcoming drag racing spectacle. All tickets are half the price for children aged 15 years old and below.
