LONDON – The British maker of luxury cars said that around 800 of its Evoque models were affected by the steering issue and would be recalled, while 600 Evoques and Freelanders would be recalled because of the brakes fault, The Telegraph reported Friday. There have been no reported accidents as a result of the problems. A spokesman for JLR said: “Land Rover is voluntarily conducting a safety recall to inspect the power assisted steering gear mounting fixings in certain Range Rover Evoque models and the brake calipers in certain Freelander and Evoque models. “Customers will vehicles that are potentially affected by these issues will be contacted in the near future.” The problems affect 235 cars in the UK. The vehicles were made at JLR's Halewood facility in Merseyside. The company has sold around 120,000 Evoques this year and more than 50,000 Freelanders. The latest figures showed the company sold a total of 324,184 vehicles in the 11 months to Nov. 30, an increase of 32 percent. — Agencies
