RIYADH – Ma'aden Phosphate Company (MPC), an affiliate of the Saudi Arabian Mining Company Ma'aden, and one of the largest producers of diammonium phosphate in the world, has recently received certification for 4 ISO standards, namely ISO 9001 (Quality Management); ISO 140001 (Environmental Management); OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety); and ISO 50001 (Energy Management). MPC has been official recognized by “Certification Europe”, an independent third party certification body, the company said in a statement Wednesday. Certification was awarded in recognition of MPC's compliance with effective quality, health and safety, environmental and management systems in the manufacture of ammonia and diammonium phosphate (DAP). Conformance to all four standards required the implementation of procedural improvements, extensive training, increased documentation, improved reporting, setting detailed objectives, targets and plans; and adjustments to systems on every level of the company. “Our success in achieving this goal is due to the tremendous dedication and teamwork of everyone in the company,” said Khalil Al-Watban, MPC president. “ISO registration reflects our commitment to achieving and maintaining excellence in our business and operations; and to continuous improvement and an on-going commitment to provide our customers with product quality, protection of the environment, protection of the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the public,” he noted. ISO 50001 is a new standard that was launched in 2011, designed to integrate energy management with business practices. MPC is among the very first companies in Saudi Arabia that is registered to this fairly new standard. The four certifications are internationally recognized standards. These give “reassurance to our clients, employees, lending institutions and the public that MPC is committed to quality, health and safety, environmental protection and energy management. MPC is now one of very few facilities that can claim certification in all four of these areas, giving the company a vital competitive edge,” it said. — SG
