RIYADH – The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has awarded three contracts worth over SR1.3 billion to build transformers in Makkah, Madinah and Asir regions. Saudi local companies will implement the projects in 29 months, said Eng. Ali Bin Saleh Al-Barak, CEO of the company. Al-Barak said the first contract, costing SR406.2 million, was signed to set up a central transformer in Jeddah with a capacity of 13.8/110/380 KV. “It will boost the grid's efficiency, reduce overload and improve standard of electricity services provided to customers,” he said. The second contract, worth SR435.8 million, was to set up a 380 KV transformer in Madinah as part of SEC's plan to strengthen the local grid in the Western region. Another contract was signed for building a transformer in Bisha in Asir region. The 132/380 KV transformer project will be implemented at a cost of SR 473.5 million. Al-Barak also unveiled plans to make huge investments to boost the reliability of the electric grid and meet the growing demand for electricity power in various regions of the country. — SG
