Alfanar Construction Company has been selected by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for a $118 million (SR444.5 million) contract. Part of the SEC's plans to interconnect several grids throughout the country, the contract is for the construction of a 380-kV substation near Makkah, which will also provide power to the new building projects in the area. According to the SEC, construction of the substation has already begun and is expected to last two years. Alfanar Construction, an integral part of Alfanar Group, has signed a 380kV substation contract worth SR 444m ($119m) for Makkah West substation with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). This project will enhance the capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity in Makkah, especially the Holy Al Harram area where the project will distribute electricity to the new facilities located in the area. As part of an interconnection plan, the proposed substation will also be linked to several other substations, including the Aziziah South substation and the Shoaibah substation, and the 380 kV overhead transmission lines in Makka. The scheduled time for the implementation of this project is in 29 months. Alfanar construction has the credit of implementing several key projects for the Saudi Electricity Company in different parts of the Kingdom, with a total value of more than SR3 billion.
