MANILA — Filipino celebrities took to Twitter to post reactions about Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon's first runner-up win at this year's Miss Universe pageant. Many of them congratulated the country's bet. “Congratulations @janine_tugonon Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner Up! We are so proud of you!!!” Anne Curtis (@annecurtissmith) tweeted. Mariel Rodriguez (@marieltpadilla) posted a similar message: “Janine we are so proud of you!!! Thank you for showing the universe just how beautiful Filipinas are!!!” However, some celebrities, while proud of Tugonon's achievement, could not help but express disappointment over the results. Like many other Filipinos, some celebrities believe Tugonon should have clinched the title after her eloquent response during the question-and-answer portion. Tugonon was asked, “Do you believe that speaking English should be prerequisite for Miss Universe 2012?” She answered: “For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language. It's about being able to influence and inspire other people. If you have a heart to serve and a strong mind to show people then you can be Miss Universe.” Charlene Gonzales-Muhlach (@itsmecharleneg), herself a Miss Universe 1994 finalist, tweeted: “I honestly feel @janine_tugonon answered the best!!!” Ruffa Gutierrez (@iloveruffag), who was crowned Miss World 1993 second runner-up, echoed the same sentiment: “NOOOOO way!!!! This is insane!!!! … This is soooo disappointing.” Miriam Quiambao (@miriamq), who was also Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up, tweeted: “We're still very proud of u @janine_tugonon!! You did your BEST, everything RIGHT, and that's ENOUGH! (For us, YOU are) @missuniverse!!!” — SG
