SANA'A – Brig. Gen. Omar Abdulkareem, Director of Sana'a Security, has stated that the assassination of a Saudi diplomat in Yemen and the abduction of another are clearly linked, and both operations were carried out by Al-Qaeda. He said the killing on Nov. 28 of the Saudi diplomat Sgt. Khaled Al-Enizi, stationed at the Military Attaché's Office of the Saudi embassy in Sana'a, and the kidnapping last March of Abdullah Al-Khalidi, Deputy Saudi Consul General in Aden, were carried out by Al-Qaeda elements. He said both incidents bear the hallmarks of Al-Qaeda operations. In a statement to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Brig. Gen. Abdulkareem said the assassination of Al-Enizi is a terrorist act and the Yemeni security authorities have preliminary leads on those who carried out this heinous crime. He declined to disclose the identity of the perpetrators and said, “We cannot give any information at this stage.” He said the committee formed to follow up Al-Enizi's assassination has been provided with the preliminary report.
