ARAR – Saleh Al-Osaimi, the first Saudi prisoner released by the Iraqi authorities after serving a six-year jail term, reached the Kingdom by land Thursday. Al-Osaimi burst into tears when he reunited with his kin who arrived to receive him at the northern Jadeeda Arar border point. “I am extremely delighted to be back in my homeland,” he told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. “This is a great day for me. I have no words to describe the inhuman torture that I had experienced there.” Al-Osaimi said he brought with him letters from several Saudis who are behind bars in Iraq. “They also requested me to convey their greetings and feelings of love to their relatives and the nation. They are impatiently looking forward to the great day when they get released and return home,” he said. Al-Osaimi was imprisoned by the Iraqi authorities. Six years ago, an Iraqi court sentenced him to death after convicting him of illegal entry into the country. But later, his sentence was commuted to six years in prison. According to sources, more Saudi prisoners are expected to be released by Baghdad over the coming days.
